About

Disha Dureja is a senior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, originally from Fox River Grove, Illinois, and uses she/her pronouns. She is passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion and education. Using data analytics, she conducts research to identify educational discrimination in the Chicago Public School System at Northwestern University. She is the co-liason of Peer Multicultural Educators, actively working to spread awareness of diversity issues to the student body. Her work on Peer Multicultural Educators consists of creating educational trainings and project groups such as the Chasing Equity Convention and the Gender Inclusivity Initiative. Disha started the project South Asian American Studies, to implement a course about an ethnic minority group into the the curriculum at IMSA, bridging two of her passions. She enjoys teaching and is a facilitator in Leadership Education and Development, a program aimed at developing leadership skills and social awareness in students. She also teaches as a Mathnasium Instructor and a Writing Center Tutor. In addition, Disha has a passion for music. She is involved with Spreading Music Around Campus, and is president of the Music Box Project Inc., a non profit organization aimed at spreading mental health awareness through music. Outside of school and extracurriculars, Disha enjoys singing, board games, and spending time with her family.
